I still can't get over what happened to Jah, but the signs of a good writer is to be able to let go of beloved characters. The story starts with Tech grieving over the loss of Jah one of his most loyal soldiers who was gunned down over a beef that involved one of DonB's people which caused Tech to have disdain for DonB and all affiliated with him Tech takes the loss of Jah hard, just as he did Jah brother Paul, so he ventures out for a night of drinking while mourning the loss of his friends. As he was drinking away his sorrows, two low level pieces of trash started scheming the moment they saw him. As he is leaving the bar he is followed by these two who target him to rob him. While the two robbers had the jump on him a wild haired dirty scrawny kid fearless of death got the jump on the robber who was the aggressor and went on the attack. The kid saved Tech's life and after speaking with him, Tech realized he knew his brother. The kid was named Animal and a friendship and bond was forged that would last forever. "It was Tech that people respected but it was Animal that they feared", this quote sums it all up for me. Tech was a hot head at times that no one wanted to mess with because of his reputation, but it was Animal who committed some of the most sadistic acts that caused people to fear him. when they were seen together, it was nothing for folks to cross the street so they would not have to cross paths with them. Tech was the head of a small enterprise considered family who took on odd jobs for Shai Clark. When one of Clark's people gets in a jam that may cost him life behind bars, Swann comes to Tech with a proposition. Given the opportunity to make a large sum of money and a have seat on the commission, it was Animal who took on the almost impossible task, one that Swann thought he would fail at because he did not think Animal had what it took to pull it off. Everyone had doubts except Animal because the job entailed walking into the lions den with a higher probability of not coming out alive. To prove what he was capable of, Animal offered to bring Swann back a token as proof that the job was completed. While completing this job, something happened that would forever change Animal by hardening him and erasing the last little bit of innocence he had left in him. It also showed a compassionate side of Animal and the compassion he had for the innocent. This is the book where we really got to see Animal morph into a true animal. By the time this story was over, the new Animal was ready for the next chapter of taking the streets by force if necessary.

The loyalty and love that Tech and his folks had for each other was real. They treated each other with respect and no decisions were made without talking it out amongst themselves to cover all angles. They were family and they were prepared to go down together if it was necessary. I enjoyed reading more about the young Animal and how he and Tech became family. The action started from the first few pages and did not lighten up until the end. I read this before I read Welfare Wifey's and it gave me the back drop i needed to fill in all he blanks on Animal and Tech's relationship and why Tech hated DonB and what caused his lack of respect for the Clark's. I would definitely suggest you check this book out along with the entire 'Hood Rats" series (reading them in order). This is definitely another must read! The book is 'The Leak' by K'wan available at amazon.

The Leak Hood Rat edition by K'wan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was my first time reading this author. I know K'wan is world famous, but I don't read a lot of street lit. I love this book. I purchased Animal last week and was waiting for the paperback to get here. I downloaded this book because was free, and I had no idea I would get an introduction to Animal! This is was a nice, little story. K'wan is a good writer, which everyone knows by now. I don't like street lit because it's usually poorly edited, but that's not the case with this book. Well, there are several grammatical errors, but it's not an every page type of thing. If you like K'wan, and you haven't read this book yet, I highly recommend it.
From the first page I was hooked. Every single word leaped from the page and sat it's behind on my work desk. 0) I 'saw' the stick up of Tech, 'heard' the tone in Bump's voice, 'felt' his crimson on me, and everything!! It was crazy good! My imagination has been worked so much from this short story, I know the novel will put me an overflow of usage; which is great for a reader like me 0)

While reading this short story it made me think, 'How many young men started out like Animal?' I couldn't stop flipping the pages on my app even as I'm taking phone calls at work. I'm afraid to purchase the full novel because I'm afriad I'd get fired for reading instead of working. But I think I'll take that chance.

The characters are so well developed, 3 dimensional, and realistic. They're not 'living' a life that is made just for novels, but the life of real men. I'm drawn to Animal like a moth to a flame and I can't wait to download the full novel.
I chose the heading because it's the truth! Animal has nothing to live for except himself. He has no one there for him so he's going to get his by doing what he does best. He's on the road really not caring about nothing but his pockets getting fat, but it's really bothering him about the old lady that he shot because he didn't mean to and for that... He turned into exactly what his name is. A ANIMAL !! I'm going to recommend this book to everyone that I know that likes to read these kind of books!!!
The Leak by K'wan is the prequel short story to Welfare Wifeys and in this short introduction you learn a lot . The story centers around Animal a true natural born killer but for him it is not just about killing it's is survival of the fittest. From a very young age Animal took on the mentality of kill or be killed but even still he has morals and honors the code of the street and that is your word is your bond.

Animal is taken under the wing of Tech after a robbery turned attempt on his life. From that moment their was a bond formed and for Animal; the once dirty kid now had clean clothes and was eating on a regular. When a chance meeting with the underground's elite that presents an opportunity that could change Tech and Animal's lives it is an offer Animal cannot refuse.

The Leak was a quick read that had all the key elements that had me glued to my . I believe readers will definitely enjoy this read if you are a true fan of action packed Urban Fiction with just enough suspense, then I would highly recommend The Leak.

This was my first time reading work from K'wan and I thoroughly enjoyed this teaser that kept my interest from beginning to end. I admit I jumped into a series that storyline but it was very easy to follow that it kept me engrossed. My only disappointment was that it ended but not before piquing my interest as to what could possibly happen next to Animal.

A great read K'wan!
